The passage of time leads a person towards good or evil. However, man remains in perpetual loss unless he utilises his time in good cause as Allah explains, ‘By time, man is in perpetual loss except for those people who believe and perform good actions.’ We suffer from procrastination. Even in deen we delay and postpone our actions in order to achieve more of the world. But who knows when death will strike when man then will plead before Allah for another opportunity but it would not come to any avail. Therefore prior to this regretful moment every given second should be spent in pleasing Allah. In this regard the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم has said, ‘Capitalize upon five things prior to the arrival of five.’ The commentary of this hadith goes into great detail in explaining these five aspects and how a person should appreciate and hasten towards them before the arrival of five regretful and distressing moments.
