ecture by Shaykh Hasan Ali on cassette.

The forgotten empire in this title refers to the vast development of different sciences, established under Muslim influence dating back to as far as the 7 th Century. In this day and age, Muslims distinguish between religious knowledge and non-religious knowledge. This type of distinction, however, is not found in the sunnah of the Messenger (pbuh), who classified knowledge into two categories: beneficial and non-beneficial. Traditionally, a scholar (‘alim) was one who first acquired the knowledge of the Quran, hadiths, Arabic literature, etc and then embarked on a quest of studying and further developing another science such as Mathematics, Philosophy, Geography, Medicine among many others. This lecture gives a brief history of the development of knowledge under Muslim empires – which always remained at the forefront of discoveries – and urges Muslims to go back and follow the pathway of the predecessors
